Unclassics 50: Closer Musik - After Love (2002, Kompakt)

genre: minimal

It would be difficult to imagine "dance" music of 00s without Kompakt label.
Duo Matias Aguayo & Dirk Leyers known as Closer Musik released a few singles and this album and then they went their own ways. Aguayo still makes amazing music. Check his Are You Really Lost LP or this year's Walter Neff single. He in fact last year made a single called Minimal, in which he denonced the whole genre singing "the music had no groove, had no balls, it was just pumping pumping...". After Love is minimal house that was still creative, with plenty of glitch elements and soul samples. Aguayo's soulful vocals on majority of songs bring human element to the raw techno beat. Closer Musik had the same importance for minimal as for the "pop techno" genre with people like Barbara Morgenstern, Ellen Allien or Apparat.

Other recommended albums on Kompakt:
Superpitcher - Here Comes Love, 2004
Matias Aguayo - Are You Really Lost, 2005
Kaito - Hundred Million Love Years, 2006
The Field - From Here We Go Sublime, 2007
Michael Mayer - Immer 2
and Total 6 & Pop Ambient 3
and plenty of minimal singles. This label is all about singles, right.
