Tropicalia revival in middle 00s might be re-dressed nostalgia after psychedelic music and exotica, but after listening to Os Mutantes for the first time plenty of people realized the psychedlic music is not western white rock thing (with George Clinton and his bands added as black tokenism). After all the fuss Os Mutantes reformed and went on world tour (I sadly missed them) and they even released a new album a month ago (not very good, sorry). But the real tropicalia thing from our times was El Guincho's Alegranza. He mixed the original demented salsa beat with hip hop and techno and created a psychedelic masterpiece. I was released on Young Turks and later on XL, but perhaps should have gotten more applause from people like you.

el guincho is also a part of a band called coconot. they've got two albums, pretty good, pretty similar to what guincho does.
